Alfred J. Giguere

Voorheesville, NY – Alfred J. Giguere, died at the age of 80, on October 19, 2012 in the comfort of his home & surrounded by his loving family. Alfred lived life to the fullest and was always looking for the next adventure. Born on December 24, 1931 in Albany, New York, son of the late Alfred and Mildred (Wehrle) Giguere. He attended Albany Public Schools as a youth. Fell in love and married his wife, Shirley A. Rifenburgh, formerly from Germantown, on July 25, 1954, settling in Voorheesville. Alfred began his 40-year newspaper career in 1949 for the former Gannett -owned Knickerbocker News moving over in 1960 to Hearst Corporation’s Albany newspaper, Capital Newspapers/The Times Union. He began his long career as a photo engraver, advancing to foreman, production manager, production director and lastly Director of Operations, retiring in 1989. Alfred was former president of the Photo Engravers Union; former member of th e U.S. Naval Reserve; former Board Member of numerous local and national organizations; former member of the Albany Camera Club, Sports Car Club of America, NRA, and local gun clubs. Alfred loved fishing, hunting, motorcycling, boating, snowmobiling, trave ling, listening to classical music, reading, collecting antiques and guns, and time spent at his family camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends. Alfred is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley A. (Rifenburgh) Giguere; his daughters Barbara Pozniakas of Clifton Park and Susan (Michael) Gallo of Voorheesville; his sons Alan Giguere of Voorheesville and Greg (Diane) Giguere of Delmar; his grandchildren, Paul Gallo of Albany and Jeffrey Gallo of Voorheesville, Marc Pozniakas of Schenectady and Krista Pozniakas of Clifton Park; his brother, Robert Giguere of Arizona ; his cousin William Wehrle of Ballston Lake and several nieces and nephews. At Alfred’s request, there will be no calling hours or service. Memorial contributions may be made to The Community Hospice of Albany County,445 New Karner Rd. Albany,NY 12205 in Alfred’s memory.
