Beatrice Norayne Floody, 96, formerly of Altamont and Naples, Florida, passed away at the Eddy Village Green nursing home in Slingerlands, on April 22, 2012. She was born in Oswego on October 23, 1915, to William and Nellie Lennon McMahan. Her grandfather, Captain William Lennon, was an Irishman and Great Lakes captain who served in the Navy during the Civil War. Norayne, as she preferred to be called, graduated from New York University and taught kindergarten for 38 years in the Smithtown, NY, school system. Among her many activities in Albany and Naples were volunteering at the Albany Medical Center and the Ladies of Charities, membership in the Bethlehem Garden Club, membership in the American Association of University Women and many book clubs, as well as tutoring children of migrant workers. She was pre-deceased by her husband Ralph W. Floody, her sister Helena Dyer and her nieces Katherine Dyer Moorhead and Eileen Dyer Sherwin. She is survived by two nephews, two nieces and many grandnieces and grandnephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at St. Madeline Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Road, Schenectady. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Oswego. Friends may call Saturday prior to the mass from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Salvation Army.
