ALTAMONT – Charles C. Simons, 86, died January 25, 2014, following an extended illness with Parkinson’s disease. Charles was born in Berne, NY, and was a valedictorian graduate of Berne High School. He resided in Altamont, with his wife of 64 years, Vaughan; self-employed many years in pre-fabricated metal building construction. Charles also had several years of federal government service as a welder at the former Voorheesville Army Depot and later as a Construction Representative at the Watervliet Arsenal. Son of the late Hadley T. and the late Victoria (Hansen) Simons, he is survived by his wife, Vaughan; son Kerry of Nashua, NH; daughter Karen Engel of Richmondville, NY; granddaughters Kelly Engel of Washington, D.C.; Brett Engel, Esq. of Albany, NY; and Leigh Engel of New Orleans, LA.; and sister-in-laws Janet Simons of Albany, NY; and Betty Simons of Altamont, NY. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in St. John’s Lutheran Church, 142 Maple Avenue, Altamont, at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 1, 2014. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charles’ memory may be made to Parkinson’s research; National Parkinson Foundation, Inc. Gift Processing Center PO Box 5018 Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018 or St. John’s Lutheran Church PO Box 770 Altamont, NY 12009.
