Hal McCarthy passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, October 11, 2009. He was born on July 22, 1938 in Malone, NY to Helen and Harold McCarthy. He was a graduate of St. Joseph's in Malone, SUNY Plattsburg and earned 2 Masters degrees from Union Collage. He worked 33 years for the Guilderland Schools in a variety of positions: Math Teacher, Coach, Business Manager and culminating as Superintendent of Schools. After retiring from Guilderland Schools he worked in the insurance business in different capacities through May, 2009. Hal was beloved by his family and friends for his intelligence, generosity, and his love of life. He loved spending time in the Adirondacks, playing tennis, golfing and maintaining friendships from over his lifespan. He is survived by his wife of 46 years JoAnn, a daughter Kim, a son Michael and his wife Corinne, a son Shannon and his wife Isil, and 2 beautiful grandchildren - Madeline McCarthy and Engin Dennis McCarthy. He is also survived by his siblings Teresa Guido of Syracuse, NY, Michael and his wife Marge of Burke, NY and William and his wife Sharon of West Palm Beach, FL. Hal's family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Masson and Dr. Gold and the caring staff at St. Peter's ICU who provided him and the family wonderful care and support through this difficult time. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service Thursday October 15th at noon at St. Lucy's in Altamont. A reception will follow at the Parish Center.
