John T. Tenace

Slingerlands - John T. Tenace, 63, died on January 2, 2012 after causes related from the Vietnam War allegedly and suspected of Agent Orange. He was born in Schenectady on July 9, 1948 the eldest son of the late John A. and Evelyn Anderson Tenace. John was born and raised in Colonie and Schenectady, but also lived in Albany. He attended both Linton and Mount Pleasant High Schools in Schenectady. John was a Vietnam War combat veteran of the US Army Infantry. He held the rank of corporal-specialist and during his tour he also served as a paratrooper. He fought in 1968 Tet Offensive. John was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and Parachutist Badge. Upon returning to civilian life he worked for General Electric, Gourmet Award Food Distribution Co., and Freihofers. He was an excellent tractor-trailer driver associated with the Teamsters. He was involved in hobbies and was an avid military history fan. John is survived by his beloved wife and best friend in life of almost 30 years Donna Bradt Tenace; one of his younger twin brothers, Frank A. (Patricia) Tenace; a sister in law Maureen Tenace. He is predeceased by his other brother Matthew A. Tenace. He is also survived by his aunts, uncles, cousins, best friend Doug Pratt, and friends Al Azary, Sgt. Robert Galas, Bob Barber, Glen Byrne and other Army buddies. John's sergeant said that he was a wonderful soldier and that John refused to put in for the Purple Heart because other soldiers deserved it more than he did. A memorial service will held at a future date.
