Krystal E. Claus Tompkins

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass … it's about learning to dance in the rain." -Vivian Greene Krystal Elaine Claus Tompkins, 38, of Hensonville, lived by those very words up until her passing on January 26, 2017. She maintained a positive attitude and heroic spirit through all of the challenges placed before her, creating an aura of serenity that put everyone at ease. Krystal provided a glowing example of how to live and appreciate life. Through a commitment to professional and personal excellence, she touched the world in a positive light in many ways, leaving a legacy of joy, class, and dignity. She was a dedicated and highly skilled ICU Nurse at Albany Medical Center for almost 20 years, where she touched and contributed to saving countless lives. She cared for the most acutely ill patients, yet no matter how busy or tragic the situation, her colleagues shared that she managed to lift their spirits and help them get through each shift. She was a strong advocate, not only for those in her care but for their families as well. She was a source of strength, optimism, and levity in difficult and stressful times. Some might call those caregivers "heroes," others might call them "angels." Krystal was a nurse who personified both. With a captivating smile so bright, you'd feel its shine before she even entered the room. Krystal will always be remembered as a bold spirit, a brave and kind soul, the spunkiest girl you'll ever know, and a real force to be reckoned with (especially when it came to her beloved New York Yankees). She was an inspiration who truly learned to dance in the rain. Krystal is survived by her parents Garry and Joanne Tompkins; her brother Raymond; her furry 4-legged kids, Momma and Jeter; many special aunts, uncles and cousins; and treasured friends. A celebration of her life will be held later this spring. In lieu of flowers and to honor Krystal's passion for animals and respect for law enforcement, she requested donations be made in her honor to the Greene County Sheriff K-9 Unit for bullet-proof vests for the dogs. Each vest donated will bare a special patch in her honor. (Greene County Sheriffs K-9 Unit, 80 Bridge Street, Catskill, NY 12414) "She is clothed in strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future." Proverbs 31:25

I am very sad to hear of her passing. I enjoyed working with Krystal in the SICU. A very vibrant, go-atta-it kind of girl! Very professional and a fun person to be around with even with those most difficult times in the SICU. I loved her spunk! Rest in peace Krystal I only have good memories of our time in the SICU!
