Margaret Stevens

Born on August 28, 1926, Si lived and worked her whole life in Knox, until she moved to the nursing home in 2003. After attending Berne-Knox School, Si took over her father's service station. Anyone who new Si knew her work was her hobby. She was known to keep long hours working seven days a week. Always light-hearted, Si enjoyed music, played the piano and loved to dance. She was very devoted to her family and customers. Si was a member of Knox Reformed Church. She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel Webster and Edna Stevens; brothers, Raymond and Marshall Stevens; sisters, Mildred Wideman and Virginia Clickman. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Emma Stevens and Jennie Stevens, both of Knox; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; great-great nieces and great-great nephews and, of course, hundreds of beloved friends and devoted customers of Si's station. The family would like to express their sincerest thanks to the staff at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center for the compassionate care they provided Si for the last seven years. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, May 21, 2010 at Knox Reformed Church, followed by an interment in Knox Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, May 20, 2010 from 4 to 8 PM at the Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont. Donations may be made in her name to Knox Reformed Church, PO Box 86, Knox NY 12107.

Knox has truly lost an institution! "Si" will be missed by all of us who grew up knowing that anytime day or night she would be there to answer our call should we "really" need our help in an emergency. There are not many people left in today's world like her.. someone who truly understood the meaning of being a public servant and she always was willing to go the extra mile for anyone who needed it. We will all miss her. I for one have missed her for a very long time, not begin able to stop in for a friendly chat, to get some gas and foremost for one of her beautiful and always ready smiles! May God truly bless her! Bill and Joan Bentley

I rememeber as a child going to get ice cream at Si's. She was such a wonderful lady. My thoughts are with your family at this time.

Although I did not know "Aunt Si" I have heard a lot about the wonderful person she was! My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.
