Martin Milton Van Voris

d. April 27, 2015

Gallupville- Martin Milton Van Voris passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2015 at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. He was born on January 13, 1925 to Milton and Angie (nee King) Van Voris and was raised in a farmhouse in Richmondville, NY. He attended Richmondville Central High School. Martin was married to his wife Waunetta for 60 years, having married on September 24, 1949. For many of his young years he worked off and on for General Electric Company before settling on permanent employment with Walter's Motors and Truck Company, retiring in 1987 after 25 years of service. Martin also served as a Volunteer Fireman for the Gallupville Fire Department for almost 20 years. He served as Chairman of the Gallupville Assessment Board for 3 years. He was a member of the Gallupville Methodist Church. Martin had many interests and hobbies, but his passion was the time he spent hunting, trapping and fishing. He was so proud of his many kills from hunting and the many skins he acquired from his trapping. He enjoyed raising his peacocks and pheasants; some of which he would enter in the Cobleskill Fair each year. In his later years he took up golf at the suggestion of his son-in-law and enjoyed many years of playing the sport. He bowled at Schoharie & Cobleskill Lanes and was also a member of the Senior Bowling League at Town & Country Lanes where many 200+ games were enjoyed. Because of his love for bowling, Martin had the biggest selection of bowling balls that anyone would want. He and his wife Waunetta traveled somewhat extensively; taking a Mediterranean Cruise in 1975, a trip to Hawaii in 1977, went to Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, and a cross-country trip taking them to Alaska as well. After retirement, they enjoyed being at Schroon Lake at the camp of his daughter and son-in-law. Martin was predeceased by his wife Waunetta in 2010, his brother Ivan Van Voris, his sister Evelyn Laffety, brother –in-law William Gilman and William Shedina, and most recently his sister-in-law Whanda Shedina Martin is survived by his daughter Cheryl (Ron) Frederick; his grandchildren Sean (Tina) Frederick, Stacey (Jason) Moreau and Kimberly (Todd) Brennan; his 2 great grandchildren Hannah and Spencer Moreau; sister-in-law Wilma Gilman as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank BHNRC for the care Martin received while there; but a special thanks goes out to "Martin's Girlfriends" Alice, Lillian, Jodi and Kathy and the staff of the S2 wing. The family is also appreciated and thankful for Hospice and the help and comfort they provide during this time.
