Berne - Mildred Motschmann, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at home on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 after a brief illness. Mildred was born June 20, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth Taffner. Mildred was a fun loving person; as a girl she loved to play baseball and write poetry. She was an accountant for Mason Candy in Long Island, then worked as a historian for The Old Stone Fort in Schoharie. She was a devoted wife and mother. Mildred loved to cook and bake. She was an avid gardener, bowler, seamstress and NY Yankee fan. She had a wonderful sense of humor and morals. She loved to laugh and tell a good joke. Mildred always had a smile and a hug for her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Mildred (Russell) Levy of Commack, NY and Robert (Ida) Motschmann of Berne; her brother Larry (Betty) Taffner; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jack) Betty, Robert (Lauri) Motschmann, Spencer (Lynn) Motschmann, John (Carla) Wright, Missy (Curtis) Jessee, Matthew (Kathleen) Motschmann and Janeanne Motschmann; thirteen great grandchildren, Blake, Megan (Keith), Michael, Brandon, Nikki, Evan, Loren (Zachary), Kaylee, Aaron, Hannah, Dalton, Ethan and Sean; four great great grandchildren, Aaliyah, Madison, Owen and River; several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband beloved Robert Motschmann; sisters, Elizabeth Waters, Gloria Welton, and Dolores Schliecher; a brother Raymond Taffner. The family would like express their gratitude to the Community Hospice of Albany for their support during this difficult time, especially Shelia McGee, RN hospice nurse. A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont. Friends may call prior from 1 to 3 PM. A spring burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mildred's memory to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 or The First Reformed Church of Berne, 1664 Helderberg Trail, Berne, NY 12023
