Altamont - Olive (Burke) VanAuken, born January 24, 1931, entered into eternal rest on March 3, 2010 at Albany Memorial Hospital surrounded by family after a long battle with COPD. She lived most of her life in Altamont. She was was a devoted wife, homemaker and mother who enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, taking day trips and most of all caring for her family. She worked as a bookkeeper for a family business and was a 35-year member of Altamont's VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. VanAuken was the daughter of the late Augustus and Mildred Burke and the sister of late Robert Burke. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry A. VanAuken and was predeceased by her son, Robert and his wife Barbara. She is survived by sons Harry "Al" (Victoria), Clifford (Linda), Thomas and Terry of Altamont and William (Marianne) of Arizona. Mrs. VanAuken had 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A funeral service will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont, followed by an interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Guilderland. Friends may call prior to the service form 10 am to 12 pm. The family would like to thank Dr. Gart, the staff at Memorial Hospital and the Community Hospice for their care and support.
