Peter Marvin Becker

Peter Becker’s Eulogy

BERNE- Peter M. Becker, 52, died on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, in a tragic accident while at work at the Berne Highway Department.

He was born in Albany, NY on April 5, 1968, the only child of Marvin and Nancy (nee Yarmchuk) Becker. He graduated from Berne-Knox-Westerlo Central School in 1986 and then went on to the Technical Career Institute in Windsor, CT.

At the young age of 16, Peter joined the Berne Volunteer Fire Company. In the earlier days, he drove ambulance. He was as they say “always there”. When a call went out, he was there, even on his wedding day.  Peter was a life time member and past chief of the Berne Volunteer Fire Company. He also served the Berne Fire District as District Chief.

Peter was a man with a smile on his face, a waiting hug and he was always happy to see you.

He is survived by his beloved wife Robin (nee Meszaros) Becker whom he married on December 2, 2017; his daughters Lacey Becker (Dan Keller) and Eden Becker (Larry Gladd) and their mother Carrie Amsler; brother and sister-in-law Jeffrey and Karen Meszaros and nephews Daniel and Andrew Meszaros; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins;  his brothers and sisters of the Berne Fire District and surrounding fire companies.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2020 from 1-5pm at Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, Altamont. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 26, 2020 at 11am at the funeral home, followed by Last Call at the Berne Fire House. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Pete’s memory to Berne Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 187, Berne, NY 12023

As Pete would say, “Thanks for coming”

We encourage those who will be attending Chief Becker’s calling hours on Sunday to park in the Altamont Fairgrounds Park Street parking lot located off of Main Street (State Route 146),  Shuttle buses will be running continuously from the parking lot to the funeral home beginning at 12:45 p.m. until the completion of the services.

Guestbook

Peter its been a while and the days and nights don't get any easier. Miss you like crazy love you so much. Always in my heart. As I have cried for the family and lost that we all feel. I remember the good times and know that you are taking care of the family that has passed. That in its self gives me comfort. One memory that I have and I don't remember why I was crying but I was. The family was at the Berne Fire House and I was outside the main door way crying and you came up to me. Said kids what's the tears for and I said what every was on my mind. As the tears rolled down my face you picked up a tear and told me to make a wish and blow the tear off you figure. I did as you asked and these past weeks I have done this many of times in last couple of weeks and things are getting a little better because I know you are watching over me, the town the community and most of all the family. With love always Heidi

It has been just about two years now since my father, Carl Stolzenburg, passed away in the fire that destroyed his shop. I think Peter was the first person there when the call went out and he most certainly was the first with open arms for me and my family. We will never forget his compassion on that difficult day. Sincerest condolences from the Stolzenburg family.

My condolences to all family and friends . I worked with Pete @ Saab for many years and will never forget his smile that would light up any dim room . He was the type of guy that would give you the shirt he was wearing if you needed it . Pete will be deeply missed by us all . Rest in peace my friend .

Dear Becker Family, I dont know how to even begin, our hearts are absolutely broken. Peter has been a friend for the past 35 years. What a kind, happy, easy going guy who selflessly served the community. If there was ever a problem and we needed help, the Beckers and the Lendrums would be the first to jump in. Berne is like that...full of down-to-earth good people who really care about each other. Peter represents the heart of this wonderful town and he will be sorely missed. Sending big hugs, lots of love, and praying constantly for you all! Love, Catherine and John Anderson
