Roy B. Jones

BERNE- Roy B. Jones Sr., died peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Friday, June 12, 2020. He was 87. He was born on June 17, 1932 in Berne, NY, the son of the late Howard and Lillian (née Hempstead) Jones. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Edwin and Douglas.

Roy grew up in the house across the street from where he and his wife Charlotte (née Crawford) have lived for 56 years. He worked for General Electric in the evenings while in high school. He retired as Sergeant of Troop T of the N.Y. State Police Department where he worked for 20 years. After retiring, Charlotte and Roy fished their way across the country and back. They made good friends everywhere they went. He spent his time in the winters ice fishing until retirement where he fished the Florida Keys.

Roy and his family always kept busy; the springtime, making maple syrup; the summer, camping and fishing in the Adirondacks and come fall, hunting turkey and deer after returning from salmon fishing in Michigan.

Church was very important to him. He always made sure he attended a church service weekly no matter what location he was in at the time.

Roy is a 5-generation grandfather. He taught his children and grandchildren about the great outdoors.

A candle was lit in memory of Roy Jones

I have so many wonderful memories of time spent with Roy and the family. From our families camping together (Deep Misery), to visiting in the Keys, collecting sap (somehow he made work seem like fun), and years and years of sitting around the kitchen table chatting. I will miss Roy terribly, but will always be grateful for the memories. He was the best.

Dad loved telling jokes. Sometimes the same ones! Other times, you would actually start believing the story, and then came the punch line!

Karen Parker Jun 15 2020 12:00 AM

To many good memories were had with Roy to narrow it down to one or two. He was always glad to see me and will be sorely missed.
