Shirley S. Landauer

Knox- Shirley S. Landauer passed into the hands of our Lord on July 18, 2012. She was born in Middleburgh, NY on March 12, 1927 to Ivan and Myrtle Schanz. Shirley grew up on Sickle Hill in the Town of Berne. From this hillside farm she went and graduated from Berne-Knox Central School in 1945. While in high school Shirley met and fell in love with Joe Landauer. She went to work at the General Electric Company in Schenectady where she roomed with a girlfriend thru the week until her father picked her up on Friday night to spend the weekend on the farm. Shirley and Joe were married in 1949 and started their family of seven children. She became one of the best homemakers the world has ever known. She raised her children in a clean and healthy home with good spiritual and solid 3R's type education. Shirley gave each of them an excellent start in life. While Joe was working nights or attending one of the many meetings he needed to, Shirley was home making sure it was in order, a job she excelled in. When the last of her children started school, Shirley began a 25 yr. career with Price Chopper. As a cashier, she prided herself that the drawer was to the penny day after day. This was long before the debit card. After Joe's passing in 1991, Shirley began to winter in Florida near Beverly Hills and near her daughter Judi. Later her daughter Jackie moved to Florida and the three of them made some good memories together. Survivors include her daughters Judi Stinson and husband Doug, Jackie Hallock and husband Clyde, her brother David P. Schanz and his wife Dianne, her sons Jeff, Joel and wife Bonnie, James and wife Laura, and many grand and great grand-children. She is predeceased by her husband Joe, her sons Tom and John, her sister Delores, brother Richard and grandson Jason. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 5PM-8PM at Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont, NY. A funeral mass at St. Lucy/Bernadette Catholic Church, Altamont, NY will be at 10AM, July 27, 2012. The internment will be at the Most Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Cemetery, Niskayuna, NY.

There are so very many memories when it comes to aunt Shirley. Perhaps my favorite is when my mom would bring us up the hill in the winter. We would sleigh down the hill, next to aunt Shirley's and uncle Joe's, on to the ice covered pond and then drag our feet so we would not hit the fence. Aunt Shirley would always have something for us when we came inside. something to eat and warm to drink after the many hours spent playing with my cousins. I will miss my mom's older sister Aunt Shirley!!!!!!!

Will never forget visiting Aunt Shriley and Uncle Joe's house during summer vacations it was my favorite place to be and the countless ways that you helped my mother (sister Delores) when she needed it the most. And Thank you for being there when my two youngest children graduated shortly after my mom passed it meant so much to me. I will always remember.
