Charles H. Bassler, 84, who was either on a lawnmower or in the woods, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2015 (on his wedding anniversary) with his wife Mary and family at his side.
Charlie grew up in West Berne graduating from Berne-Knox Central School in 1949. He served in Korea in the Army from 1953-1955 and returned to live the rest of his life at Warners Lake. He was employed at Hannay Reels, Inc. for 38 years as a machinist and the last 19 years at Helderberg Tru-Value where he was always willing to lend a hand. Charlie was a lifetime hunter of deer and called in wild turkeys from any angle with calls he made himself. He will be greatly missed.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife Mary of 62 years and his children Greg (Deb) of Moscow, Idaho; Nadine (Pam) of Delmar; Darren (Lisa) of Knox; and Holly (Rich) of East Berne. He is also survived by his grandchildren Andrew, Dan, Emma, Megan, Kristen and Carlie. He is survived by several nieces and nephews, and his sister Phyllis Frisbee of Voorheesville.
Friends may call Monday, July 13th from 4 to 7 PM at Helderberg Lutheran Church, 1728 Helderberg Trail, Berne, New York 12023. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 14th at 10:00 AM at the same location. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Berne Conservation Club, 1696 Warners Lake Road, Altamont, NY 12009 or to the Helderberg Lutheran Church.
