January 20,2011 Maplecrest NY, David D. Blass ,65 of Maplecrest,NY died on Jan.18,2011 at his residence. He was born on April 19,1945 the son of Guy and Edna (nee Helwig) in Mill Grove Pa. David worked as a salesman in the field of Animal Health Supplies as well as Agriculture farm supplies. He was also part of the distribution staff and an independent contractor for The Daily Item Newspaper. He worked for 22 years in the Agriculture farm supply business and 8 years for the Daily Item. He moved to Maplecrest, NY when his youngest son Michael was being sent to Iraq, to be helpful to his family. While in New York David was always willing to lend a hand to local residents .His hobbies included working outdoors,making homemade Maple syrup and working on cars. He was a member of the Mitchell Hollow Mission Church,Windham, NY. He also belonged to the Katika Hunting Lodge and the Chillisquakee Coon Club. He is survived by his children David Daniel Blass of Bloomsburg ,Pa., Lisa Marie and son in law Brian Rodriguez of Northumberland, Pa., Bonnie Sue and son in law Kirk Miller of Catawissa,Pa. and Michael Joseph and daughter in law Laura Blass of Maplecrest, NY. He is survived by his grandchildren,Amie Savidge,Justin and Joseph Rodriguez,Amanda,Hope, Ashleigh and Elizabeth Miller and Anna, Samuel and Elisia Blass of Maplecrest, NY. He is also survived by his siblings Lucille Kreisher of Nescopeck,Pa., Charles Bloss of Catawissa, Pa. and Rose Mary Hummel, of Bloomsburg, Pa. He was predeceased by his parents as well as his sister Lea Brophy. David was strongly involved with Victory Baptist Church, Hummels Wharf and Mitchell Hollow Mission Church in Windham, NY. His favorite Scripture verse was 1 John 4 9:15. He believed and lived by the motto "Don't look back this to will pass". David was a strong leader and provider to those in need. Local calling hours will be held on Saturday Jan. 22,2011 at Mitchell Hollow Mission Church from 10-11am. A service will follow with Pastor Todd Luce presiding. Local arrangements have been entrusted to Decker Funeral Home, Windham,NY. Calling hours will also be held on Sun. Jan.23,2011 from 3-5 pm at the Allen-Horn Funeral Home in Catawissa,Pa. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral Home on Mon.Jan.24,2011 at 11:00am with interment following in the Grace UCC cemetery, in Mill Grove, Pa. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in David's memory to the Mitchell Hollow Mission Churc,893 Mill St. Windham,NY 12496
