Dorothy J. Kochan of Cohoes passed away peacefully in Albany Medical Center on Monday August 25. She was 76. Daughter of the late John and Bernice Parpka Walerski.
Born in Amsterdam Dorothy was named after her mother who left the convent whose name would have been Sister Dorothy on her journey to become a nun prior to her solemn vow. Dot was an avid conversationalist and had a "gift of gab". A selfless woman, Dot's main concern in life was the wellbeing of all those around her. A loving mother, Dot always set her children and later her grandchildren first, making sure all of their needs and wants were met before hers. Dot loved to travel and looked forward to her many trips around the United States. Above all, Dot will remember as a loving, supportive, and kind mother and grandmother and will be sorely miss by those who survive her.
Dorothy is survived by her children Bernice (late John Moons) Kochan and Michael (Jessica) Kochan; Her grandchildren Ila (Shawn Townsend), Jarrod, Milly, and Joshua Kochan. Additionally, Dot is survived by her sister Margaret (Late Pete) Currier.
Dorothy is predeceased by her parents John and Bernice.
Family and friends are invited to visit with Dot's family on Tuesday September 2nd in the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Mains Street, Altamont from 5-7pm. Interment in Memory Gardens Cemetery will be private.
