Dorothy H. Taber

Dorothy H. Taber, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday June 21, 2024, after months of in-home hospice care. Dorothy was married to her late husband Neil A. Taber in 1949 and soon started raising a family of four boys and two girls in a home they bought on Altamont Blvd., where she has continued to live with her son Ronald, who was caring for her over the past few years. Dorothy was a very active person raising six children. She was also a member of the Altamont Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for many years, answering emergency calls and dispatching the fire dept and ambulance from her home. Dorothy was on the Board of Directors at Wiawaka, a women's retreat at Lake George, for seventeen years. 

During her tenure she was able to get Wiawaka on the National Registry of Historic Places and was awarded The Great Spirit in Women Award and a NYS Assembly citation for doing so. Also, she used to work at Price Chopper as a food Super Sampler and enjoyed meeting people there. Dorothy took art lessons for ten years. She painted over 100 oil paintings that she gave to family and friends. She was also an avid book reader, she could routinely be seen in the local libraries checking books out to read. Dorothy was a village sidewalk advocate and was one of the citizens who helped get the Altamont Blvd. sidewalk installed. She was a walker and loved her strolls through the village. Dorothy loved traveling which included taking at train trip across the country with her granddaughter Alison. 

Dorothy is survived her children Gregory N. Taber, Rev. Gary D. Taber, Shelly E. Taber, Ronald L. Taber and Randal E. Taber; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Dorothy was especially proud of and enjoyed her family. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Neil and daughter Beth Conway Taber.

Family and friends are invited and may visit with Dorothy's family in Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, Altamont, on June 26th from 4-6PM with a celebration of life service to follow with Rev. Gary Taber officiating. A committal service will be celebrated in Oakwood Cemetery, at the graveside at 11am on Thursday June 27th. Family and friends are invited to arrive at the funeral home at 9:30am where a funeral procession will be assembled and depart at 10am.
