Everett W. Rau

d. March 25, 2018

Everett W. "Ev" Rau, our loving father, grandfather, mentor, teacher, and friend, died on March 25, 2018 in the farmhouse where he was born. He was 98 years young. Born August 22, 1919 in Altamont NY, to Margaret V. Ogsbury and Frank E. Rau, he was the youngest of seven boys. His beloved wife of nearly 74 years, Margaret "Peg" Rau, who died in 2017, was waiting to meet his "golden chariot," and welcome him home. Ev is survived by his four children and their spouses and children, twenty-three great-grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter, and two nieces. A full obituary is available at The Altamont Enterprise. Ev's family is grateful to Melissa Hale-Spencer, for her tribute there, beautifully articulated through her personal interview with him. We wish to thank Mr. Jay Whitecloud-- there are not enough words to express our appreciation for all your help. Our thanks to the Community Caregivers, and the many neighbors and friends who called, sent cards, and spent time visiting with Dad. Our sincere appreciation to our wonderful hospice team: Craig, Nick, Cindy, Peter, Jan, Kimmey, and Chaplain Barbara. Your caring, guidance, support, and encouragement will never be forgotten. Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Ev's life, which will be held on Sunday April 22, 2018 at 2 PM at St John's Lutheran Church, 140 Maple Ave., Altamont, NY. A reception will follow in the church hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Albany.
