Florence Callimanis

Efrosoni (Florence) Callimanis July 28, 1921-November 22, 2009 Florence, 88, died on Sunday after a short stay in the hospital. A lifelong New Yorker, she was born and raised in the Bronx, where she lived and raised her own family. Florence moved to Hensonville with her husband Costas in 1982 to be near her sisters Mary and Irene, her brother-in law Rev. George Markou, and her father, Vasilios. She is survived by one son, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Having outlived her immediate family, she spent the last five years living independently, the way she always wanted, with help from a strong network of friends and supporters, neighbors and healthcare providers. Always entertaining, Florence loved to gossip and keep up with news as a constant flow of visitors came to see her. We should celebrate as she lived her life the way she wanted to. Viewing will be on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 7:00 PM- 9:00PM at Decker Funeral Home on Main Street in Windham with a service on Tuesday at The Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, State Rt. 23 in Windham at 10am. Interment to follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Ashland.
