Nopper, Gerald "Gerry" T.  Sr.- Altamont

Gerald “Gerry” Thomas Nopper Sr passed away peacefully March 9th at his home in St. Peterburg, Florida. Born in Albany on September 25th, 1940, he was a son of Harry and Alice Nopper.

Gerry was a United States Navy veteran and a proud Firefighter for the city of Albany for 25 years and was a volunteer fireman with the Altamont Fire Department where he became a past chief.  After retiring from the Albany Fire Department, he moved to be with his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Nopper and 2 of his sons to Florida where he would split his time between St. Peterburg Florida and his home in the Adirondacks where he spent his summers. Gerry was a man of great faith. He was a member of the American Legion post 997 in Altamont. He loved to travel and shared many adventures with his children and grandchildren.

Gerry is survived by his children: Gerald T. (Patti Noack) Nopper Jr. Alice Dean, Marilyn (John) Rickard, Robert (Cori) Nopper and James Joseph (Lisa) Nopper. Also surviving; his stepchildren Cheryl Good, Melissa Charlebois, Keith Vetter and his siblings Elaine (Lee) Sweeney, Harry Nopper, William (Darlene) Nopper and many cherished grandchildren, Great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Also survived by his former wife Rose Przysiecki.

Gerry's memory will be remembered fondly by his cherished friends Winston (Pat) LaPierre and Kathy Marra.

In addition to his wife and parents, Gerry is predeceased by his siblings Janet Nopper, Ronald Nopper, Paul Nopper, Joseph Robert Nopper, John w. Nopper and a stepson Damien Amodeo.

Family and friends are invited to visit with Gerry's family Sunday March 20th 12-2 PM in Fredendall Funeral Home 199 Main Street Altamont. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2pm in the funeral home. Interment will be in the spring.
