Gladys M. Murphy

Rotterdam- Gladys M. Murphy, 85, passed away at home on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Newton Hook, NY on April 29, 1928 to the late John and Ida (Willsey) Mabb. She lived in Quaker Springs, NY from 1947-1977; in 1977 to Saratoga; in 1992 to Westerlo and Schenectady in 2002. Gladys was a teacher’s aide in the Saratoga Springs School District for more than ten years. She was a founding member of the Quaker Springs Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed all kinds of dancing and was a member of the Tri City Singles Dance Group. She volunteered for the Westerlo Resource Center; she was a member of the Westerlo Reformed Church a member of the Ladies Aide and the Mission Committee, and member of the Board of Directors of Helderberg Senior Center. She is survived by her children Lorretta J. Hawkes of Rochester, NY, James M. Wood of Foley, AL (Candida), Sharon Greenfield of Colonie, NY (Kirkland), Glenn A. Wood of Sacramento, CA (Putnam), Bonnie Wood of Rochester, NY and Connie Wood of Schenectady, NY; her brother Roland Mabb of Kinderhook, NY; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog and companion “Princess”. She was predeceased by her husband Harold H. Murphy (May 2002), and many siblings. Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, April 28, 2014 from 5-8PM at Fredendall Funeral Home 199 Main Street, Altamont, NY. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 12 noon with interment at the Westerlo Rural Cemetery.
