Hedwig "Betty" Meier -- 94 yrs old Hedwig Elizabeth 'Betty' Wachter Meier of Windham NY went to be with her Lord on Friday, October 14 after a short illness. Betty was born on October 7, 1917 in Himmelsthur Germany to John and Elisabeth (Oppermann) Wachter. She immigrated to the United States with her family and became a U.S. citizen on May 22, 1945. Betty married John Meier on June 22, 1940 in Hoboken NJ. In 1950, Betty and John and daughters moved to Windham NY where they ran the farm at the then Howell Holiday Farm and later known as the Police Anchor Camp. The Meier's were well known for their fine herd of Jersey cows and for supplying fresh eggs to local resorts. Betty enjoyed being a member of the Golden Agers and painted ceramics as a hobby. She was predeceased by her husband, John Meier in 1976, her parents, her siblings: William 'Willie' Wachter, Erna Gerlach Kortman, Theresa Waller, and Henry Wachter. Also her son-in-law Howard Todd of Hillsdale NY and several nephews. She is survived by three daughters: Maria (Wally) Thompson, Windham NY; Anna (Roger) VanEtten, Maplecrest NY & Zephyrhills FL; and Betty Todd of Hillsdale NY. Four grandchildren: Debbie (Larry) Sherman, Middleburgh NY, Bonnie Bentley, Maplecrest NY, Michael VanEtten, and Dennis (Jessica) Todd, Lynn MA. Also surviving are 8 great-grandchildren: Kyle Bentley, Hunter NY; Amanda Bentley, East Windham NY, Matthew Bentley, Maplecrest NY, Christopher Sherman, Middleburgh NY, Kaitlyn Sherman, Middleburgh NY, Megan VanEtten, Maplecrest NY, Callie Ann and Molly Ann Todd, Lynn MA. There are also 2 great-great granddaughters, Peyton Elizabeth, Middleburgh NY and Ella Wray, East Windham NY. Also surviving is her brother, Alfred Wachter of Jersey City NJ, and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty's family wishes to thank Dr. Vinoy Anand, and the staff of Columbia Memorial Hospital for all the care and kindness shown to Betty during her recent illness. Special thank you to Christopher Jones and the team at The Community Hospice at CMH for all their support and kind words; the staff at the Eddy Visiting Nurse Association for all her home care and to Betty's special friend and aide Ruth Pelkey. As Betty wished, and with the family honoring her wishes, there will be no calling hours. Interment at the Hensonville Cemetery. Arrangements by Decker Funeral Home.
