Horst A. Kuehnert

Horst Kuehnert, 97, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2026. He lived in Altamont for 60 years. He was born in Leipzig, Germany. Horst immigrated to the United States in 1954. An accomplished carpenter, he built the family home and a summer camp. Horst worked for over 30 years at the State Education Department, retiring in 1990. Horst was an avid and very stylish skier. He enjoyed many local and European ski trips. In his later years, travel to visit his German family gave him so much joy.

Horst is survived by his sons Volker Kuehnert and wife Terry, John Kuehnert and fiancée Laura Shook. Horst is grandfather to Christopher, Jeremy, Mark, Michael, and Nicole and great grandfather to Krystyne, Kyley, Syrianna, Christyan and Weston.

Marie, Horst's beloved wife, predeceased him in 2005.

Family and friends are invited and may visit with Horst's family on Saturday April 11th from 3-5 pm in the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, Altamont. Inurnment will be held privately at a later time.
