Larry Janssen, 70, born in Schenectady, New York, lived a life filled with simple pleasures, hard work, laughter, and a unique sense of humor that left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
During his younger years, Larry spent much of his teenage life living and working on farms alongside his family. Those early experiences helped shape his appreciation for the outdoors and a life of simplicity.
As an adult, Larry found his way into the trucking industry, working as a truck driver for Modern Moving in Kingston, New York. He also spent part of his working life at Adams Fairacre Farms in Kingston.
One of Larry's greatest pleasures was riding bicycles. Over the years, he owned many, including three electric bicycles. He especially enjoyed exploring the scenic rail trails with his younger brother Rick, with whom he shared a home during the final five years of his life. Those rides and the time they spent together created memories that will always be treasured.
Larry was perhaps best known for his quick wit and endless supply of one-liners. He had a remarkable ability to make people laugh, often leaving the ladies at the local grocery store in stitches with his unexpected jokes and playful humor. Even during difficult times, Larry never seemed to lose that special gift. The doctors and nurses who cared for him genuinely enjoyed having him as a patient, often finding themselves smiling or laughing because of something he said.
Larry didn't need grand adventures or material possessions to find happiness. A bicycle ride, a familiar face, a good joke, or time spent with family were often all he needed.
Larry was predeceased by his loving parents Earl and Shirley Janssen, and his older sister Virginia Costakis. He is survived by his younger siblings, Debbie and Rick, and his niece and nephews along with those whose lives were brightened by his humor and friendship.
Larry will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the laughter he brought into the lives of others. His one-liners may have come to an end, but the smiles and memories they created will live on.
Rest easy, Larry. May the trails ahead always be smooth, the wind always at your back, and may you never run out of someone to make laugh.
Celebration of life will be planned for the spring
Larry's family asks that he be remembered through the laughter he shared, the friendships he made, and the many fond memories he leaves behind.
