Born in 1948 in Trinidad and Tobago to the late Pauline Camacho and Fleming Abraham, he spent his youth in Trinidad, Venezuela and Puerto Rico. In 1969 he moved to Zaragoza, Spain for medical school where he met the love of his life, Maria T. Abraham. The family lived for some years in Puerto Rico where he worked for the National Health Service before moving to Yonkers, NY for his residency in Family Medicine. They later settled in Dolgeville, NY where he practiced family medicine for many years. The family spent several years in Sackets Harbor, NY and Accomac, VA before returning home to Dolgeville. These last few years, Mike and Maria moved to the Albany area to be closer to their children.
Michael was an avid cyclist and lover of physical sports like cross country skiing, hiking, swimming and kayaking. He learned his love of music from his mother and provided hours of entertainment for family and friends playing the piano, guitar and really any instrument he picked up. He was known for his high tolerance of spicy hot sauces. Though a serious and formal man, those closest to him knew he was always up to some tricks. In his last years he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Maria, his children and their spouses Michael J. Abraham and Michelle, Melissa A. De Andres and Jose, and Mark A. Abraham and Ashley. His grandchildren Alexandra and her husband Aaron, and Sebastian; Paula, Alvaro, Manuel and Miguel; and Joaquin; and great grandchildren Indigo and Forrest. He leaves behind his brothers and sisters Rafael, Maria Teresa, Margarita, Gloria and Pablo, their spouses and several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his close friend and cycling partner Jeffrey Stewart. He was predeceased by his mother Pauline, father Fleming, step-father Miguel Vaquer, and sister RosaLinda Vaquer.
In keeping with his wishes, a private service will be held for immediate family.
