Norman E. Bunce

d. February 9, 2018

Norman Bunce, 84, passed away peacefully at the Hospice Center in Jupiter, Florida on February 9, 2018 surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. Norman was born on June 4, 1933 in Glen Cove, Long Island to John and Ethel Bunce. As a young man Norman served in the United States Army and on October 3, 1953 he married Dianne Grella. In 1968, he and his wife and two sons relocated to Windham, New York, where he owned and operated Bunce Home Building, and together with his sons, built many custom homes still to be seen on the hills and mountainsides today. Norman was an active member of Hope Restoration Church and could always be seen and heard in the kitchen of the church doing what he loved to do, cook and talk. Here he and his comrades prepared meals for the annual Thanksgiving dinner as well as other WAJ and community events. Norman also used his building skills and gift of compassion to plan and construct the Windham Community Food Pantry, which blesses many families in their time of need. Among Norman's favored moments were the countless hours he spent with his family, hosting many family outings throughout the years, traveling from coast to coast to visit grandchildren and great grandchildren always sharing his stories using every opportunity as a teaching moment because of his knowledge of so many subjects and his ability to grasp and remember what he has either experienced or read about. Norman is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dianne, sons John and Wayne, daughters in law Debbie and Lynette, 6 grandchildren, 4 grandchildren in law, and 5 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 10 2018 at 10:00 at Hope Restoration Church, 117 State Rt. 296, Windham, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Norman may be made in his name to Windham Community Food Pantry, P.O. Box 788, Windham, New York 12496. The family is most appreciative of everyone's prayers and support at this difficult time. One of Norman's favorite scriptures is Proverbs 3:5-7 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.
