Raymond Alfred Rafferty, 94 passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2015. Raymond was the son of the late Francis Rafferty and Anna Hammond Rafferty of Albany, N.Y. He was a 1938 graduate of St. Joseph's Academy in Albany, New York He served the United States Navy in the South Pacific from 1944-1946 and earned 6 Battle Stars. After returning home he went to work for NYS Retirement where he met his future wife, Helen Rapp. They were married September 9, 1950 and raised four children: Michael Raymond, Maureen Helen, Brian Francis and Timothy William. He has two grandchildren Patrick Raymond and Catherine Jane. Later Ray left NYS Retirement for a job with the US Postal Service where he was a letter carrier for 32 years, retiring in 1980. On November 7 2014 he was honored at the Veterans Day ceremony at Karner Road Post Office. Ray was preceded in death by his siblings Frank, Paul, John, Vincent and Joseph. In addition to his immediate family, Raymond is survived by many nieces and nephews including Mary Ellen Rafferty, Patricia Glennon, and Mary Regina Ackley, Anne Hynes and nephews Rick, Joseph, John, and Arthur Rafferty. Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial service at: St.Lucy's / St Bernadette Catholic Church, 109 Grand St., Altamont, New York on Wednesday at 10am. Memorials contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
