Lake Katrine – Shirley Janssen passed away peacefully, with her family at her side on December 25th, 2021. Daughter of the late Charles and Edna Stevens Jones, Shirley was the beloved wife of the late Earl Janssen.
Our parents are together again. December 25th was a very sad day for our family this year following the passing of our mother. A Christmas Angel indeed. Shirley Janssen, the former Shirley Jones before her marriage to our dad, Earl Janssen. Shirley was a wonderful lady, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother who loved children. Babysitting many children over the years providing them with love and support, Shirley was rewarded with their love in return. Shirley helped to raise her grandson Chris following the death of his father when Chris was only 8 years old and provided care to her other grandchildren. Shirley enjoyed her daughter’s dogs, especially Maggie, attending competitions to watch them play! Our mother’s legacy is love and kindness for all; we are proud to have her as our mother. Rest in peace mom, we will miss you and tell dad that we said hi and miss him too.
Shirley is the devoted mother of Virginia Costakis, Lawrence Janssen, Debbie Janssen and Rick Janssen; grandmother of Christopher Costakis (Jackie), Samantha Janssen and Rick Janssen Jr. Great grandmother of Rowan Costakis and Christopher Costakis Jr. Beloved sister of Ralph Jones. In addition to her parents and husband Shirley was predeceased by her siblings Francis Jones, Florence Stanco, Charles Jones, and Carl Jones.
Family and friends are invited to visit with Shirley’s family on Thursday from 10 a.m. -12 p.m. in Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution to Alzheimer’s Research Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Fl 17, Chicago, IL 60601 would be greatly appreciated.
