Sybil R. Laraway of Celebration Florida died unexpectedly on Sunday September 14th. Daughter of Debra Decatur and the late Niles Laraway and fiance' of the late Delwin Shaver Jr. (d. September 14th 2025).
Born in Niskayuna and raised in Altamont, Sybil attended Guilderland High School and graduated in 1993. She also graduated from Penn State University in 2019. Sybil was employed by Carver Companies as a Human Resource Manager and Director of Compensation and Benefits. She served on the Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce from 2013-2015 as Director of Events and Fundraising.
Sybil loved animals, crime documentaries, Halloween and all things spooky and macabre. She enjoyed traveling, collecting trinkets and antiquing and also loved Duran Duran. Sybil had made many friends over the years and was always willing to be helpful and show kindness. Sybil had moved to Florida in 2021 and recently returned to live in Rensselaerville with plans to purchase property and build a home in Schoharie.
In addition to her mother Debra Sybil is survived by her daughter Morgan Lindstead and sister Alexandria Decatur. She also leaves behind to mourn her loss uncles Carver (Jan) Laraway, Peter(Deborah) Laraway, Michael(Charlotte) Belak and great aunt Patricia Farina. Additionally survived by many cousins.
Family and friends are invited and may visit with Sybil's family on Saturday September 20th in the Fredendall Funeral Home 199 Main Street, Altamont from 10am until 12pm. A prayer service will follow the visitation in the funeral home at 12pm. Interment immediately following in Schenectady Memorial Park Cemetery, Rotterdam.
The family is thankful for the outreach and support of the Lindstead family and Sybil's friends at Carver Companies, and Delwin's family. A very special thank you for the brave actions of Stephen Salisbury, Jeanine and the medical response team.
